If I set my protected address to me@tt3j2x4k5ycaa5zt.onion, the confirmation message never comes. Apparently the SG mail server can't connect over Tor.
Workaround: use the surface net (me@danwin1210.me)
But note the workaround obviously does not work if the ESP does not have a clearnet server.
protected addresses ending in .onion do not work
