can't place an xoxy.net address in the Bcc: header line

Postby bill_evans » Mon Jul 20, 2015 10:17 pm

If I place an xoxy.net address in the Bcc: header line of an outgoing e-mail message, neither does that message get delivered to me, nor does it get eaten by SG. In exactly the same context, if I substitute a non-SG destination e-mail address in the Bcc: line, I get the message.

Is this a bug or a feature?

I guess that's a bug - what email service or program are you using?

There are many valid email use cases (like this one) that we have never tested

The answer to that is quite ugly. I'm using elvis 2.2.0 to create a file with the following seven lines, and only these:

Code: Select all
To: (a spamgourmet e-mail address)
Subject: (something)
Bcc: (a different spamgourmet e-mail address)
Date: (something like Tue, 21 Jul 2015 15:51:45 -0700)
Message-ID: (something like  Tue21Jul2015155145-0700@mariposabill.com)
(an empty line)
(a single line of text)

Then my C program connects with panix.com's e-mail server, and I use the ESMTP protocol to feed this mail to it. That's how I usually generate mail, and I have yet to have non-spamgourmet Bcc:'s go missing. But this mail goes to the first spamgourmet address, but not the second one. You ought to be able to send seven lines like those to sendmail with the "-oi -t" options and reproduce the bug.

I know that's lame, but that's what I got.
