Emails in limbo?!

Postby gianni » Wed Nov 12, 2003 12:26 am

I have discovered a strange thing.

I have two accounts at SG.

I have sent an email with this in the "to" field:

io.x.username@neverbox.com, io.x.io_username@neverbox.com

where "username" is another word but is the same.

The email has not arrived and it has not been counted by the SG system (Remaining, Forwarded, Deleted counters don't move).

The same problem also moving the second address in the CC or BCC fields.

The same email but changing the second email domain in spamgourmet.com make the problem disappear.

Thanks for the attention!

I checked the neverbox.com domain by sending a test email to one of my accounts @neverbox.com instead of spamgourmet.com. It was forwarded normally. So can you please try again? Maybe the black hole is somewhere in between the sender and SG...

I will tyr to explain better! :)

No problem with domain, all emails normally arrive without a hitch.

Try to follow me ...

If I send an email singularly this way:

To: test_a.x.mymail@spamgourmet.com

To: test_b.x.mymail@spamgourmet.com

To: test_c.x.mymail@spamgourmet.com

To: test_a.x.mymail@neverbox.com

To: test_b.x.mymail@neverbox.com

To: test_c.x.mymail@neverbox.com

To: test_a.x.mymail@recursor.net

To: test_b.x.mymail@recursor.net

To: test_c.x.mymail@recursor.net

all arrive!

If I send the email this way:

To: test_a.x.mymail@spamgourmet.com, test_b.x.mymail@spamgourmet.com, test_c.x.mymail@spamgourmet.com

To: test_a.x.mymail@neverbox.com, test_b.x.mymail@neverbox.com, test_c.x.mymail@neverbox.com

To: test_a.x.mymail@recursor.net, test_b.x.mymail@recursor.net, test_c.x.mymail@recursor.net

NONE arrive and the counters of the three address don't move!

But if I send the email this way:

To: test_a.x.mymail@spamgourmet.com, test_b.x.mymail@neverbox.com, test_c.x.mymail@recursor.net

ALL arrive!

Gianni

ps: My English is very basic, eventually can I speak in Italian?

that's interesting -- I knew that sg couldn't handle multiple sg recipients in a single message, but I didn't know that it would work if you used different domains. Sendmail must be sending the three messages separately because of the different domains.

Anyway -- it's either a bug or a feature, depending on how you look at it (built in resistance to spam hitting the server for a bunch of addresses), but it is a known issue.

Does it cause problems for you other than testing?

PS - If I could speak Italian, I'd finish out the sg Italian translation :)

Hi Josh!

You mean that if a friend send an email to my SG address and to another friend also using SG that email will go nowhere?

Where is documented this behavior?
