Spam despite exclusive sender

Postby sskennel » Fri Jan 23, 2009 1:28 am

In the past few days I've started receiving spam at a disposable address I gave only to Apple. I haven't used it in forums or anything like that.

What confuses me is that I have long had an exclusive sender (apple.com) set on that particular disposable address. So why is SG accepting email sent to it from random non-apple.com spammers? Is there something about the exclusive sender feature that I'm misunderstandng?

www.nowpublic.com sold my spamgourmet address. I guess it's appropriate, given their URL.

I operate another Disposable Email service (WhySpam.Me) , and my goal is to catch spammers in the act. (the exact point of this thread). I'm just getting started, but you can view see the result by checking out our spam report. Let me know if you see some room for improvement!

I've just received an 'Unlock you account' email from HSBC, sent to the address I used for NHS Direct. Needless to say I don't have an account with HSBC and a warning symbol appears over the link in the email.

How likely is it that they got the address from NHS Direct? Do they ever just randomly generate email addresses on the off chance they will work?

I'm starting to get penny stock spam to the address I used with Vanguard.com. I doubt they sold my address. Probably the email marketing company they used was hacked.

Thanks for the reply. Let's just hope that security on the NHS spine database is better or anyone will be able to read our health records.

National Geographic, Circuit Express, and Engineers Without Borders all spam your address.

The old address given to TD Ameritrade gets spam, but the new one I gave them in 2009 has not.

DUNS - get spammed as government contractor

Postby tricity » Wed Sep 22, 2010 1:20 am

Here is something for the tea partiers among us. Government is sure to get it wrong.

I serve as independent scientific reviewer for grant applications at the National Institutes of Health. For each review panel meeting we get a token "contractor" fee (no option to waive), and to obtain the fee, we need to register with D-U-N-S (Data Universal Numbering System). Here is the link where you can request a DUNS number with grants.gov:

http://www.grants.gov/applicants/reques ... number.jsp

Providing an e-mail address is required, and I used duns.20...@spamgourmet.com - good deal, because this is now my top spammed disposable with over 1700 spams since 2005.

Facebook

Just tried to change my facebook email to a new spamgourmet one, but it won't let me.
Obviously facebook don't like people to protect their email addresses.

Just an update,
I have my own domain with an unlimited amount of mailbox forwarders avaliable.
I set up facebook@myowndomain.com forwarding to a SG address i set up just for facebook and hence all my facebook mail is routed through SG.
I was expecting to have some spam from that address by now, but it does appear facebook is being responsible with my email address.

Red Giant Software sold the spamgourmet address I gave them, and their privacy policy says they don't do that. Either they were hacked or they were naughty!
