Another Crash 1/13/2005 2:37am EST?

Postby Guest » Thu Jan 13, 2005 12:22 pm

Did spamgourmet have another server outage on January 13, 2005, on or about 2:37am Eastern Standard Time and continuing for several hours?

I was testing email filters by sending myself test emails from one ISP account to another through spamgourmet (no connection between sender and recipient); I "forged" my own headers and return addresses [when required] to simulate emails
[1]
from a "simulated outside party" or "simulated spammer" to my disposable
[2]
from my disposable [I use address masking] to a "simulated outside party"

I did not send from my disposable to a "simulated spammer", since any such email would be a lot of curses, ha-ha

Suspecting a problem, I began paralleling each spamgourmet email with a direct email between my protected address and the "simulated outside party" or "simulated spammer."

Direct emails were sent separately, but as close in time as possible to the spamgourmet tests. CC: or BCC: were never used. Any modifications of headers or addresses to simulate an outside party or spammer were identical in spamgourmet and direct. The time of sending was manually written into the text of each email and compared to system-generated times in the headers.

In every case, the direct emails were delivered in under 10 secs. Delays occurred only through spamgourmet.

All tests are on Jan 13 2005. All times are AM - EST. "In" means from "simulated outside party or spammer" to disposable or protected address; "out" means from disposable or protected address to "simulated outside party."

The email labelled "missing" had not been received as of this post, Jan 13, 2005, 7:21AM EST. I can't make sense of the time displayed in the header of the preview for this posting. Is it Greenwich England time?

Spamgourmet is still up and working, no apparent problem, mail queue is reasonable. Send me the 'from " and "to" addresses of the missing emails in a private msg and I'll try to see what is in the log.

The 'missing' email turned up a few hours later, after the prior posting. The only noticeable artifact during this time was the delay, but, since 100% of emails were eventually delivered, I have no complaint. :D

PHP Session Handling failes

Postby C_Thomas » Fri Mar 25, 2005 9:46 am

Dear Josh and Team,

since Epiphany this year I don't experience any problems in Spamgourmet forwarding my frequent messages, neither to nor from me.

However, I noticed problems concerning the login at spamgourmet.com for some days: Beginning a session at your site, I first log in in non-secure mode. It is successfull. Then I navigate through the site and Spamgourmet forgets my login. It says "There was a problem with your login. Please log in again."

Please check, how PHP tracks the user identification from HTML-page to HTML-page.

Dear users, who suffer from the same problem: Change to secure mode. It works fine. I'm verry happy with Spamgourmet.

Happy Easter,
C. Thomas, Germany
