Don't delete my spam!

Postby PaulBx1 » Tue Aug 05, 2008 3:19 am

OK, I know this sounds weird. Here's the deal...

I have on two occasions forgotten to renew an email address that subsequently was used by associates to send me email. That is, I lost good emails.

Well, maybe I'm using this service a little differently than originally envisioned. Not just for visiting porn sites.

Anyway, I think it would be a good additional feature for spamgourmet, instead of always deleting emails, to be able to send them on anyway - with one change: a flag in the subject line, something like "SpamgourmetDetectedSpam". Then I could create a folder and have my email client shunt all those to that folder. This way the spam is still kept out of my inbox, which is the main thing I want spamgourmet to do, but if I really need to I can go through that folder and find the email I want.

I've had 7700 emails forwarded (mostly from email lists) and had 63 eaten, of which I know two are good emails.

I like this idea. I know I've lost emails before when I've forgotten to reset the counter. I wouldn't want all my addresses to work this way. Perhaps just the unhidden addresses would be forwarded with the modified subject. And the feature shouldn't be enabled by default. I would think I should have to set a flag for my account for this behavior.

You can already do something like this. List the domain name of the site you gave the address to in the exlusive sender field of the address. Then set your email filter to select on the sent from address to put everything in your new folder SpamFromDomain. By putting the domain into the exlusive sender list, the site can sell your SG address and you don't care. All email to that address from anyone else gets trashed by SG. All email from the domain you care about gets put into the special folder by your email filter.

And, there is another option you can use:
If you can trust a sender, you can list their mail addys or domains as - what? "trusted senders" ! ( on advanced mode page).

All mail from these trusted senders are forwarded to you, regardless of which of your SG addresses they used, and - just like exclusive senders - if you set the count to zero.

If I understood correctly, after wisely outwitting our alzheimer and making sure all wanted mails get through, I doupt you will need an SG Spam folder?

I have a lot of trusted senders. However, I noticed that most spam comes from bogus addresses and bogus domains. Now I list as a trusted sender myregion.rr.com, BellSouth.net, and even aol.com. A few messages sneak through, but I don't have to worry about the counts so much.

I'm not sure if I still have yahoo.com as trusted. A lot of Nigerians use that domain.
