Josh,

I don't have anything to add except thank you for everything you've done and being transparent in communicating with the community.

Best,

William

Hi Josh,

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to live as long as you can stand the downsides of the GBM.

I would very much appreciate if SG could be seamlessly continued since I am a heavy user: Using two aliases / logins for several years I've created 653 spamgourmet addresses for now. Each and every webshop (and the like) does get a spamgourmet address. Unfortunately, some sites recently rejected SG-adresses (and its other domains) - hence I won't register!

Thank you very much for your work and for this excellent free service. World has become a better place by your work.

Best regards from Germany, keep a stiff upper lip!

1. Really sorry to hear about your brain cancer. CANCER SUCKS ASS.
2. I LOVE SPAMGOURMET.
3. I will happily donate my time and technical knowledge and experience to keep it running and minimize downtime.
4. I will happily throw my hat in the ring for a board seat. Strongly suggest a well thought out and clearly documented vision for the board to adhere to. Articles of Incorporation even.
5. I already run a bunch of servers and have monitoring in place to make sure I know when things go down, adding a few more is a breeze. We could even put together an on-call rotation for operational issues.
6. I used to work for AWS so I'm very familiar with how to utilize their services and make regular backups of forums, system configs, logs, etc
7. Write down your manifesto for SpamGourmet -- what is it, what does it need to be, what principles did you build it on and that you'd like to see it maintain well into the future
8. Fight the cancer, but don't ruin your life to try and beat it. Sometimes quality of end-of-life with your loved ones, kids and spouse is way more valuable than chasing a 10% chance on an experimental cure.
9. I hope you can stick around for a long time. Either way, THANK YOU for SpamGourmet.
10. Original username ooglek was inactive, and I guess I did it again with ooglek2. Huzzah, ooglek3 was born. 8)

Hi Josh,

Because your service is doing so well I didn't check the news for quite a while. Today I was shocked by this thread.

As I learned from my own cancer (cured - so far) it's not a question, whether life end's - or when. The important question is: How? Let me wish you a good time with family and friends - longer than the average! And may life end as late as possible, but quick.

Not only didn't I check the news for months. I also didn't pay for the service much too long. I promise to pay more regularly in the future and I hope this may make the decision a bit easier for your children to continue your remarkable service.

Josh, I'm so sorry to hear your health news. Like many, I don't log on here for months at a time, just use the service and don't think about it often.
I hope Spamgourmet survives, but that's less important. I'll find some alternative if I have to.

I'm just so sorry that this is happening to you, and respectful of your grace in dealing with it. Take care of yourself.

Dear Josh, I am very sad to hear such a sad news about your health.
Many thanks for your great service for the last 18 (!) years.

It'll be quite hard to switch to another service as am I an early user (about 500 different spamgourmet mails registered as main mail).

Blessings to you and your family, Josh

Josh, I'm sorry to hear of your health problems and give you my best wishes in that regard.

WRT your looking for someone/people to assist or take over the running of Spamgoumet, I could vouch for my son for at least the technical side; he has a responsible position (in the UK) for a major IT company, and specialises in internet security. Nothing in IT fazes him. He might not be willing, but at least I could put it to him.

For myself, I'd be willing to be a member of the board which has been suggested by some others. I have used SG routinely for both incoming and outgoing emails some years, with four different accounts and I guess a couple of hundred aliases. I have designed and run a couple of websites (ad-free) myself, including a games one. I loathe spam and intrusive ads.

I presume that the hosting could continue on the existing basis - I understand that it is provided free of charge. Are there any expenses other than domain registration, and how much of your time does it take up?

Hi all, I've been a long time user of spamgourmet and want to thank y'all for all the incredible work. For some reason, I decided to check out the forums today. When I read this post, I immediately registered and am sending this out as my first message.

I don't know much about GBM and hope that you can stay strong for as long as possible. I live in Houston and have friends at MD Anderson if you want 2nd or 3rd opinions.

Hello Josh, I hope you are doing well and that you succeed against the cancer. I would pay to keep my account as well and as you saw have given a small donation a few weeks ago too. It would be nice to hear from you again. Best regards, easyspam

Hey everybody! I'm still here. Thanks for all the links and supportive comments!

I've had two brain surgeries in the last since my first post on this subject, and now I have what appears to be a third tumor in another part of the brain, and it's "inoperable" is the word, I guess. The specific identification for the cancer has been "disseminated glioblastoma" for a couple of months now, since the three tumors are not close to each other and not connected in a visible way. My wife and I are continuing to do a lot of research on ways to keep things going, so the links are helpful.

Still working with my kids on taking over my role(s) at spamgourmet, and the transfer is pretty smooth. I don't see us choosing to take new users -- the support requests are too much for them to handle (young adults with demanding career obligations), but the continued service for existing users is looking totally doable and good. Also, neither of them has killer brain cancer :)
