Sometimes I get "Relaying denied"

Postby Skeeve » Tue Jun 01, 2004 10:20 am

Hi!

I like the feature to send email from one of my spamgourmet addresses, but sometimes my mails are rejected with (e.g.) Relaying_denied/Giving_up_on_216.218.230.146./

What's the reason for it? Is it my fault?

Interesting. Who's your ISP?

Skeeve,

Next time this happens, please do two things:

1. Post the full headers of your "relaying denied" notification here. Replace your email address with xxxxx to anonymize it.

2. Try sending the email again and let us know if it works, which means it's a temporary communication problem between T-Online and sg.

I also tried it again right now and it bounced again.

My ISP is T-Online. But I was sending using GMX' web interface and also trying to use my employer's mailserver. Both failed. The above is from GMX.

Solution!?

Postby Skeeve » Wed Jun 02, 2004 11:08 am

I think I found the reason for "relaying denied". Somehow a %23 instead of a # appeard in the mail address, so that it read:

+hkems+Skeeve+XXXXXXXX.sales%23hkems.co ... ourmet.com

instead of

+hkems+Skeeve+XXXXXXXX.sales#hkems.com@spamgourmet.com

Skeeve,

Please try again using the corrected address. Let us know. The # changed into %23 might indeed be the cause of your bounces.

Also, in case you get another rejected message, please email the complete message to info (at spamgourmet dot com). The header doesn't contain enough info to allow troubleshooting.

I already did so and didn't get a bounce. But also no reply yet. But I'm very confident that it went through.

Update: It went through. I received a reply. Thanks for your support.[/b]

Most providers, at least in Germany (e.g. T-Online ...) block
relaying emails which originated from other domains.

Which SMTP-Server do you contact ?

In T-Online I think you can configure your account and make your
dial-in open for other email-senders.

At least you will have to use an authentificated SMTP-Account

SIncerely yours
