dfgh.net causing mail bounces

Postby utilux » Tue Apr 27, 2004 1:25 pm

I have just registered some software on-line and now can't receive the registration key because of the mail bounce that is happening. How long till it will be fixed?

Postby spur » Tue Apr 27, 2004 1:37 pm

Hi,

Anothter recent example. Just tested a few minutes ago, same "domain name doesn't exist" error message bounces back; message doesn't go through.

Further details -- it appears that some messages are bouncing back, while others just disappear entirely.

Is ANYONE receiving their mail properly right now? I'm not getting any mail through at all . . .

It'd be great for someone from SG to just post a message here that they are aware of the problem, so we know there's relief in sight. I can't say how unsettling it is for the only acknowledgement of a TOTAL outage to be a message from yesterday on the News page saying the problem is fixed.

Guys?

Whew -- I had to upgrade the a DNS server yesterday, and the tests went fine -- looks like something must have happened after that. I've used a more basic config, and now my tests are running ok again.

Can anyone else confirm this?

YES! The fix is IN! Great job, Josh & company!

Ya never appreciate things until they're gone. :-)

Thanks for the great job and thank you so much for making SPAM GOURMET available to we poor spam-ridden hulks!

thanks for your kindness :) -- I was sort of bracing for worse. Thanks also for verifying that it's working

I'll put the announcement up on the news page.

S'ok. Anybody who goes hyper over the VERY seldom seen
outages at this site doesn't deserve to BE here! :-)

TWO questions, Josh (although this might not be the time or place)

1 - is there any other way to donate beside PayPal for those of us
who don't care to use it?

2 - Do any of the proceeds from Spam Gourmet mechandise actually
go to you or are they gobbled up by the venue site?

Just curious, and can't seem to find the answers elsewhere on the site.

I can also confirm a test message just sent and received.

Thanks, Josh.

hmmm, for some reason, i still don't get any emails through. waited for about an hour now for a test message to arrive, but it hasn't so far... a little bit frustrating, because just this monday several important messages would have went through one of my spamgourmet accounts. never mind - probably, i'll just have to wait longer... anyone's spamgourmet working just fine right now again?

GUEST-

I donate through Paypal, but you might also consider a gift certificate from some ubiquitous behemoth internet retailer like Amazon or Buy.com. Who couldn't find something they like there . . . :D

By the way, according to the CafePress FAQ:
http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/ownerfaq.aspx

The store is completely free to you, the shopkeeper. When your customer orders an item from your store, we will manufacture the item, charge your customer, ship the product, and handle the customer service. You receive a check monthly for your sales commission (which is the dollar amount you set over our base price).

So, just to pick a random (and disturbing :) ) example, the Spamgourmet "Classic Thong" sells for $10, and the base price is $7.99, so if you purchase that, in addition to walking funny you'll walk with the pride of knowing you sent $2.01 back to the folks who keep this fine service running.

But I might go for the sweatshirt instead . . .

I'm guessing (Josh?) that messages which were sent before the fix was put in will be lost forever. Some will have boucned back to the sender (I received a few bounces to my test messages) while others will have been eaten.

To see if it's working again, I would suggest sending a new test message now, rather than looking for one sent a while ago.

If you don't receive a message you send now, it's cause for concern, of course, but if it's older messages they may haev bounced away . . .

Anyone who's still having problems, please contact me directly and we can work it out.

I, for one, was using a test account that had a prefix set up which was preventing my test messages from getting through until I realized it....

I think you can donate to the project through sourceforge, but they may be using paypal, too, and I don't know what % they'd take. I've heard enough concerns about paypal that I'm looking for an alternative -- you don't know of any, do you?

Paypal takes a few % off each donation, but after that, all the money gets to sg operations. They've done right by sg so far -- no cause for complaints.

The sg cafepress store has netted a total of about $50 for sg over its three+ year existence -- I'm surprised they haven't shut it down, the volume is so low. I'm told that most people think the sg merchandise sucks (my design, that is -- the general quality of cafepress stuff is good), but the truth is that even if the merch was selling well, it wouldn't be generating much for sg. I leave the store up because it's zero cost and maintenance, and I got in a situation where I had to buy a thong for somebody.

The google ads are the primary source of revenue. Between them and the donations, there's never been a month where operations costs weren't covered. Please don't click on the ads unless you're genuinely interested in the advertiser's produce/service -- understandably, Google are acting fascist with regard to fraud detection and will terminate an account on the mere *appearance* of impropriety, which would be disastrous for sg.

Just sent out several test messages again now and haven't received them for about an hour now.... i'll wait until tomorrow again but it seems to me that they were eaten already, as well.

I'll come back, if the problem presists. Too bad - i'd like to recover a passwort with an email recovery function and tested it several times, but all of the emails were eaten. Now i hope, that i still can recover my password before the 20 emails limit is reached (probably i should really look for the professional account.)

For me: There is only one way to go: Moneybookers! I use them for over two years now and am very comfort. They have several languages, are cheaper than PayPal and offer nearly the same services (Donation, Auctiontransfers etc.)

Instead of the quite strange things going on at PayPals, MoneyBookers Ltd. is authorised by the FSA to issue electronic money as a specialised electronic money issuer.

So to me it's very secure. If you are happy with it, you can consider using my reflink for registration: https://www.moneybookers.com/app/?rid=133823

edit: i just tested the passwort ressetting procedure at spamgourmet but haven't received this email as well. :-( my spamgourmet email is forwarded to an @web.de adress. probably their spam filter could cause some trouble?

Then i tested another spamgourmet email forwarding to a different adress at @mailsurf.com - and their: received within seconds...
