not sure what that was -- can you try it again? We had DNS difficulties for a short period.

Hey, Josh -

I just attempted it again, it's 5:18 eastern, and I'm getting the same message. :(

It's still broken

Still getting the same message, even to postmaster@spamgourmet.com.

I'm getting the same thing on my account

Postby jbs » Mon Apr 26, 2004 11:28 pm

A couple of people today have told me they got the same bounced back message,

forward.20.xxxxxxxx@xoxy.net
SMTP error from remote mailer after MAIL FROM:<xxxxxxxx@post.harvard.edu> SIZE=2597:
host gourmet.spamgourmet.com [216.218.230.146]:
501 5.1.8 Domain of sender address xxxxxxxx@post.harvard.edu does not exist

Any ideas what's causing this? I can't tell how much mail is being affected, but I've tested it a couple of times with things I'm sending myself and it is getting bounced . . .

I see the same thing

I tried both a spamgourmet masked reply & when that didn't work I tried a sg initiated hidden address send and both gave me this error:

Unfortunately, your mail was not delivered to the following address:

<+****+****+e70cb64d28.****#****.com@spamgourmet.com>:
Connected to 216.218.230.146 but sender was rejected.
Remote host said: 501 5.1.8 Domain of sender address ****@netzero.com does
not exist

**** mask real data above....

Sounds like the same issue.

I've been able to do both actions before.

Same here.

Your message

To: prefix.name.2.username@spamgourmet.com
Subject: test2
Sent: Mon, 26 Apr 2004 20:24:38 -0700

did not reach the following recipient(s):

prefix.name.2.username@spamgourmet.com on Mon, 26 Apr 2004 20:24:29 -0700
The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not
report a specific reason. Check the address and try again. If it still
fails, contact your system administrator.

bouncy-bounce

Looks like this is ongoing. I had three mails bounced earlier. Just tried it again (10:30 PM central) and the same thing happened.

It says the JUNO domain I am mailing from doesn't exist. Ah, well....
There's always tomorrow. :-)

same exact problem for me too!

Postby spur » Tue Apr 27, 2004 5:00 am

Hi Josh,

I'm having the identical problem with mail being bounced back with the same error message -- sender's domain name does not exist. Hope you can fix this soon.

My e-mails to info@spamgourmet.com also bounce with the same message.

Thanks
spur

Josh
Just to be clear I posted the previous message after the news page indicates the problem is fixed. Guess it isn't and you would want to know.

Domain does not exist - additional clues (?)

Postby nick4mony » Tue Apr 27, 2004 5:59 am

:?

I get the same thing posting to a zzzz.20.zzz@dfgh.net, and a zzz.20.zzz@spamgourmet.com address, both existing and not-existing.

The from addresses are ...
zzzz@dnb.com.au
zzzz@webactivation.com.au
zzzz@grad.com

Lucky I test these things before I give them to any body.

*********
*** The additional clue ******
*********

The zzzz.20.zzz address is NOT being created... I know that because I log into the spamgourmet system and switch to advanced mode.

Happening about 20 minutes ago.

If you want to sms me on +61438366342 (Australia mobile), I can mail you my real usernames and email addresses privately.

Example on 27-Apr-2004 3:40 PM +10:00
The e-mail address could not be found. Perhaps the recipient moved to a different e-mail organization, or there was a mistake in the address. Check the address and try again.
<smtp.dnb.com.au #5.1.8 smtp;501 5.1.8 Domain of sender address zzzzz@dnb.com.au does not exist>

Still not working

Postby Carsten » Tue Apr 27, 2004 8:59 am

Since yesterday evening it's not working. Still get an error message like the following and no emails get resent by Spamgourmet.

Not getting any mail this morning, Josh can you update us?

Postby jbs » Tue Apr 27, 2004 1:19 pm

I logged into email this morning and discovered no new mail, including a couple of "get them every morning" emails. I've since sent several test messages to several SG addresses and none are coming through . . .

Josh, can you give an update on what the situation is? It's a bit unsettling to know that all my mail is just "disappearing" and not to have a sense for when it might be back, especially when the news page says it's fixed already.

Do you know what's causing this and have a sense for when it will be fixed? Do we need to start changing our addresses with folks we're expecting mail from?

I know SG is not for urgent mail, and I know it's a free service (though I do donate), so I'm not trying to be a jerk, just want to get a sense for whether this is a one-hour or a one-week problem.

Can you let us know?
