Logging in to SG account

Postby davies » Thu Apr 17, 2014 9:04 am

I am missing an email, but other emails are arriving. Before contacting the sender, I want to check that I haven't done something stupid with the sender's account (I think I have an exclusive sender set up, but...). However, whenever I try to log in, Firefox reports "The connection was interrupted The connection to http://www.spamgourmet.com was interrupted while the page was loading."

I have 3 SG accounts for different purposes (home, work & a group of friends I currently organise), and I get the same message from all three. All other SG pages - and all other web sites I have tried - work fine. Is there a problem at SG or should I get on to my ISP and give them the earful they deserve?

TIA & regards,

John

My browser can load http://www.spamgourmet.com, but not the secure version (https://www.spamgourmet.com). It looks like it's an SSL error.

This is TERRIBLE! I need to increase the number of messages on one of my addresses, but can't do that without logging in, and logging in requires SSL. This needs to be fixed today.

I found this post: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1578

It indicates it may be per-browser. So, instead of using Firefox on my linux desktop, I tried Chrome from my phone. And, it works. So, getting in is possible.

It does seem to be per browser. IE failed for me, too, so I went to another machine that has the latest version of Firefox and that worked. But I'm not changing my main machine to it - it has at least one major problem (for me) that I don't want on my main machine. So please, SG team, could you investigate this problem? I appreciate that we aren't paying & that we get more than we pay for, but a total inability to log in is a problem.

John

I'm facing the same issue and for me it seems not to be a browser problem.
I tried
PC 1: chrome, IE10 -> SSL error
PC 2: firefox, chrome, IE10 -> SSL error
Tablet: chrome mobile, dophin -> SSL Error
Mobile Phone: dolphin -> SSL error.

Actually I'm not able to log in to my account

I too have difficulty now with both an older FireFox and Chrome.

The Firefox message is ...
=========
An error occurred during a connection to http://www.spamgourmet.com.
Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s).
(Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
=========
Chrome reports
=========
Error code: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
=========

I even tried Lynx.

jamesd has identified the reason for this in the following post
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1578&sid=ce23c6aeed64ba3b3d86b93a778a03c2#p7397

Thanks jamesd for figuring this out. I also learned something.

Re: Logging in to SG account -- success

Postby nsomos » Fri Apr 18, 2014 2:46 pm

I was able to succeed with FIrefox version 27.0.1 oddly enough.
(I had previously tried with an older Firefox on a different machine)

Then I tried to update Firefox with the latest version 28 from within Firefox
and Firefox itself said the update failed because

"The integrity of the update could not be verified"

It suggested I download and install manually.
Some time later (when I don't have other work to do) I will go ahead and try that and report back.
Of course, by then SG might be fixed in which case none of this matters.

Based on the SSL labs test that jamesd pointed us to ... the following might be currently expected to work

Handshake Simulation

Android 4.4.2 TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (0x9d) No FS 256
Chrome 33 / Win 7 R TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA (0x35) No FS 256
Firefox 27 / Win 8 R TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA (0x35) No FS 256
IE 11 / Win 7 R TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA256 (0x3d) No FS 256
IE 11 / Win 8.1 R TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA256 (0x3d) No FS 256
Java 8b132 TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (0x9c) No FS 128
OpenSSL 1.0.1e TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (0x9d) No FS 256
Safari 6 / iOS 6.0.1 R TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA256 (0x3d) No FS 256
Safari 7 / iOS 7.1 R TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA256 (0x3d) No FS 256
Safari 7 / OS X 10.9 R TLS 1.2 TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA256 (0x3d) No FS 256

Don't despair if your Browser/OS doesn't match pairs given above.

In my case although I could run Firefox 27, it was on Linux and NOT on Win 8 as given in above table.
SO if you can at least run one of the above browsers ... it is worth a shot even if OS does not match.

Mozilla has a web page on older versions ...
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/in ... of-firefox
On that is a link for Firefox 27.0.1 which is the version I had success with.

In any case Thanks Josh for providing us with SG.

Developers understand that when everything is going OK, little to no effort is required.
But when things break, the amount of time to fix can be gruesome. It all depends.

I have IE10 working here. That might be a difference in settings. In Options/Advanced I have SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 selected. If yours happens to be set up with no TLS options, just SSL, it might fail.

Logging in to SG with Konqueror works

Postby nsomos » Sun Apr 20, 2014 4:19 am

I managed to log in with Konqueror 4.8.4 successfully.

This is a KDE flavor Linux web browser.
