Reply address masking (RAM) and Gmail

Hi.

Can Gmail work with Reply address masking (RAM)? I can use RAM with other providers but Gmail ignores reply address and shows my real email address.
Anybody knows how to set up Gmail to work with RAM?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your answer josh.

I think I have found that the problem is the Gmail version for Android.
Have yo tried to reply an email using Gmail from an Android mobile? In my case, my real email address is shown. So I cannot use Spamgourmet and Gmail on my mobile.

Anybody else has same problem?

Regards.

Actually I use it on my galaxy tab 3, and it works fine.

Since the emails get sent through the SG service first to be sent to the email which you are replying to it will be masked there not from your gmail address itself to the email which you are replying to.

Steps used to mask from you to other (coorect me if iam wrong josh or syskoll):
Other -> spamgourmet(via forward type to the SG address u used) -> You(to your real email address)
You(your real email address being sent and the SG address in the TO) -> spamgourmet(removes your email address and uses internal mambernetics to send/forward via the email address you used for the 'other' in the TO) -> other

Though your email may appear at the top, it isnt revealed to the people who you got the email from, it is sent to SG itself which they already know your real email address so it doesnt matter if they see it or not before stripping it. That is how "RMA" works iirc.

Odomus, thank you for your answer.
I know the magic behind Reply Address Masking. I have tested deeply and I think I have found where the problem is.

If the account that sends the email message has a FROM that includes real name with accents (or non-ASCII Characters), Spamgourmet Server change the FROM field address to a string similar to this

From: "=?iso-8859-1?Q?Real Name with accents Fern=E1ndez?=
- busybodyemail@domain.com" <test.mysgusername.6913e966e5.busybodyemail#domain.com@ob.0sg.net>
<busybodyemail@domain.com>

If the original FROM is pure ASCII the FROM field after going through Spamgourmet is similar to this

From: "Real Name without accents - busybodyemail@domain.com"
<test.mysgusername.6913e966e5.busybodyemail#domain.com@ob.0sg.net>

In the first case, if you are using GMail (Web or Android tested), the message is sent to busybodyemail@domain.com not to test.mysgusername.6913e966e5.busybodyemail#domain.com@ob.0sg.net so the magic behind Reply Address Masking is being ignored, because the message is sent directly to the recipient not through Spamgourmet servers.

I think that Spamgourmet server is adding an additional email address at the end of FROM field when the real name has accents (or non-ASCII characters). The server is encoding the text in the FROM field (according to RFC 2047) but is including the original email address after this. Gmail is using this last address instead of the masked address.

So, be careful if you use GMail, when you reply a message that has been encoded in this way you can be making public your real email address. This is not a consequence of a wrong setup in your email client, or in your Spamgourmet setup. This is a situation that can emerge when someone send you a message and has non-ASCII characters in their email address.

Admins, please review this case.

Regards.

After 15 days nobody has replied to this post.
Admins, I think this bug is important because one of the main features of SG (privacy) is at risk.

Thanks for this - can you post an example of the From: line for case #1 *before* it went through spamgourmet in the first instance?

It would be something like this:

From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Real Name with accents Fern=E1ndez?=
<busybodyemail@domain.com>

In the mail client setup is:
Real Name: Real Name with accents Fernández
email: busybodyemail@domain.com

hmmm. can't seem to reproduce the problem - if you have a minute, do you have the ability to *send* such a message to:

testaccents dot sginfo at spamgourmet dot com

?

I set up a test account with that real name, and the receipt account has reply address masking, but when I reply in gmail, it's showing the proper redirection address.
