exclusive sender MUST include the TLD?

Postby flinchlock » Fri Dec 25, 2009 3:45 pm

These are the only options I have enabled...
reply address masking
eaten message log
hide subject tagline
hide tagline for trusted/exclusive only

trusted sender (NONE)
watchword (NONE)
default number = 20

I have a SG address of amazon.sguser@9ox.net (not real):
max count = 20
remaining = 20
deleted = 0
exclusive sender = amazon

When I send an email To:amazon.sguser@9ox.net From:myaddy@yahoo.com the results are:
max count = 20 (no change)
remaining = 20 (no change) <<-- BAD :(
deleted = 0 (no change)
Subject: Test #01
X-Spamgourmet: (amazon: to exclusive)

When exclusive sender = amazon.com
When I send an email To:amazon.sguser@9ox.net From:myaddy@yahoo.com the results are:
max count = 20 (no change)
remaining = 19 (CHANGE) <<-- GOOD :D
deleted = 0 (no change)
Subject: Test #02 (amazon: message 1 of 20)

Do these two test messages make sense regarding "exclusive sender = amazon.com" ONLY decrementing the remaining count since the From: email was NOT amazon.com?

What I *think* I want is to allow ONLY emails From:amazon.com to come through... so, I MUST have the exclusive sender with the ".com" ... right?

The more I read posts about exclusive senders the less I understand. :?

Looks like the changed Subject: and X-Spamgourmet: headers are backwards???

Mike

Your own tests proved what you asked, so you already answered yourself. Exclusive senders are allowed to send to their assigned addresses without lowering the count (thus 20 remained 20. Not bad, really not bad).

You chose for the tagline header (X-Spamgourmet) to be created only for exclusive senders, so that's exactly what happens.

I am sorry I was not clear about the Subject: and the X-Spamgourmet: headers are backwards.

What I should of said was, it looks like the contents/value of the Subject: and X-Spamgourmet: headers are backwards.

New tests...

I also set the max count to 20.

Before test emails...
max count = 20
remaining = 20
deleted = 0

exclusive sender = amazon
When I send an email To:amazon.sguser@9ox.net From:myaddy@yahoo.com the results are:
max count = 20 (no change)
remaining = 20 (no change) <<-- WRONG
deleted = 0 (no change)
Subject: Test #3 w/o TLD (amazon: to exclusive) <<-- WRONG, it was sent by yahoo.com

When exclusive sender = amazon.com
When I send an email To:amazon.sguser@9ox.net From:myaddy@yahoo.com the results are:
max count = 20 (no change)
remaining = 19 (CHANGE) <<-- GOOD
deleted = 0 (no change)
Subject: Test #4 w TLD (amazon: message 1 of 20)

Since "Test #3 w/o TLD" was not sent by amazon (it was send by yahoo.com), why was the remaining count not decremented and "exclusive" in the Subject?

Oh, that's because exclusive senders are also checked against the TO header.

So, to answer your subject, they don't have to include the TLD...they just should (or they're more likely to match the TO header).
