I have a 1ghz AMD I could donate to the cause!

I'm not sure that would be of much help though! :)

Is it really a bounce? Did you get this in an email returned to you?

Yes and yes.

You seem to be surprised. Laugh!

It did really happen. And it is still happening. I just tested it again.

I sent you long and steamy private message with all interesting dirty details. ;)

More slow email (9 days)

Postby nick4mony » Thu Jun 12, 2008 12:20 pm

I know a few others are complaining, so I'll keep it short.

There's a delay of 9 days between these two received headers:
Code: Select all
Received:    from gourmet.spamgourmet.com (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by gourmet.spamgourmet.com (8.13.8/8.13.7) with ESMTP id m999Z9ZZ999999 for <BAABAA@BLACKSHEEP.ADR>; Wed, 11 Jun 2008 19:59:20 GMT
Received:   (from jqh1@localhost) by gourmet.spamgourmet.com (8.13.8/8.13.8/Submit) id m999Z9ZZ999999 for BAABAA@BLACKSHEEP.ADR; Mon, 2 Jun 2008 05:11:05 GMT

As usual, I've obscured my protected address (capitalised) and the message IDs (replaced with ZZZ999).

PM me if you want the real headers.

Nick.

I get regular messages sometimes almost instantly, but lately messages with attachments show up after 2 weeks(!). What's going on? I've just lost (delayed?) an important message. I got a call asking me why I never replied (because I never got it).

I finally got it today. The headers say it was sent in 2008-08-28. Today is 2008-09-02. That's almost a week later for an urgent business message. Obviously I already had them send it to a regular address. But what caused this delay?

P.S.
I changed my address to one with a bigger SMTP delay, but when it arrived today, it arrived to the old address. Why is that?

The message might have got in the queue to your old address, and our server was trying to deliver it for a few days. I just tried manually typing out a test message to your old address server from our server, and their server dropped my connection as I was typing.

We're really not under attack these days (more than the usual amount of noise), but we're greylisted by a bunch of servers, which creates delays for the users and builds up our queue, and then there are servers like that one which drop the connection -- I don't know if that was on purpose because we're considered suspect or what.

I have to say, when I started this up in 2000, I anticipated a bunch of difficulties, but I did not foresee the problem of users' services seeing *me* as a spammer -- it's annoying to be sure, and I really don't have time to deal with it, unfortunately.

I know for a fact someone sent me a business related message with attachments 2 days ago (7th) and I still got nothing. I don't know what to tell them.

Delayed delivery

Postby VdkaShaker » Fri Sep 12, 2008 8:04 pm

I just today got an email from Facebook (one of the notifications I signed up for). The send date was 4 days ago. Seems like delays are still going on. I'm awaiting another email from Chase that should have taken 5-10 minutes (an hour ago).

I finally got it today - a little more than a week later (15th).

What about my new server? They're both from the same host, except the new one had a static IP address.

Also, how does greylisting affect incoming messages? Does it mean the senders' SMTP servers slow down the sending process?

Update: I'm still getting emails out of order and some are very delayed. Seems like some get caught up somewhere in the system and are delayed, while others make it through right away.

We still need help with this issue to make SpamGourmet reliable.

I started receiving emails out of order as well. Yesterday two messages were sent to one of my disposables - a first email at 2:58 PM and a reply-all which quoted the first, sent at 3:02 PM. The second arrived at 3:26 PM - not so great even in absence of being out of order - and the first arrived at 8:50 AM the next day.

I'm again losing messages which have attachments. I know for sure some were sent in October 1st. I hope they're just delayed.

Update:
One message with an attachment was sent in September 25th and arrived only today (October 5th), which means a week and a half later. It was 100K.

Update:
One message with an attachment was sent in September 25th and arrived only today (October 7th), which means [b]almost two weeks/b] later.
The aforementioned messages from October 1st also arrived today. There's actually a chance my cache is clean now, but I have no way to know, of course.

Hi,

I just received a mail sent... 10 days and 10 hours ago!

Here are the corresponding headers:
Received: from gourmet.spamgourmet.com (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1])
by gourmet.spamgourmet.com (8.13.8/8.13.7) with ESMTP id m95DnAVB017181
for <obfuscated@domain.com>; Sun, 5 Oct 2008 13:51:22 GMT
Received: (from jqh1@localhost)
by gourmet.spamgourmet.com (8.13.8/8.13.8/Submit) id m8P3YQ7I007419
for obfuscated@domain.com; Thu, 25 Sep 2008 03:34:26 GMT

Additionally, I was told that a mail I sent on 2008-10-02 was replied the same day, though I didn't get the reply till now...

So there is something wrong on SG servers, is it again due to some form of attack on the service?

Thanks in advance
TerDale
